Changes with YouTube’s API: What it means for TubePress
Dec 11, 2006 TubePress
A few weeks ago, YouTube quietly changed the behavior of their API that TubePress utilizes. The change produced some buzz among the TubePress user community, mainly because it really changed the way that someone’s “favorites” are displayed; it now only shows the latest 10 posts, instead of the entire “favorites” collection.
I, like a lot of TubePress users, were disappointed. It was a lot more fun to see all of your favorites at once, instead of hiding the majority of the list.
Around the same time all this went down, I sent in a question to the YouTube dev team to see what the dilly was. Finally, they got back to me with a rather thorough explanation that I’ll share with you below. Haven’t had a chance to test out their recommendations with playlists, but I’m anxious to try. I should also note that the YouTube API doesn’t have any playlist capabilities, but when and if they do include it, you can be sure that I’ll put that functionality into TubePress. Happy TubePressing.
Hi there,This was a change done through engineering. It is supposed to encourage the use of playlists to organize your videos.
There is a way to arrange your playlist. Go to My Account and then under videos(on the top right) click “playlist.” Then click the playlist you want to arrange (eg: 1) eg: http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists/p=1 Then on the right hand side there will be a box with numbers. 1 being the top. Place the number that corresponds with the order you want to put them, in the box on the right hand side. Then click the rearrange button.
Unfortunately, at this time there is no way to rearrange your favorites list. However, once people understand how easy it is to use the playlist feature to organize their favorites. They won’t want to use favorites for other than a kind of quick list or a short list of videos that is easy to access.
If you cannot find your favorites, remember that as you add them, the most recently added video will go to the bottom of the list (not the top as it once did). Please check here for your added videos. Also, remember that if you had a favorite video that was taken down on the site, it will no longer be shown. It will also cause the order to change.
Please note whether adding or deleting a video to/from your “favorites” list, it can take some time for this to process and post on the site. Please be patient.
For those that are still having trouble or have found glitches in their playlists/favorites try clearing your cache and deleting cookies and see if that doesn’t help.
I hope this explanation helps! Happy holidays!
Regards,
Wynston

Seriously, give this some thought. The numerical system you previously used for arranging our Favorites was just WAY better than what you are now doing! The Favorites format was awesome in terms of a personal reference collections and very easy to arrange regularly! Please talk to your “engineers”!! Why reinevent the wheel or fix something that was just fine and definitely NOT broken!
