Jedi Mind Tricks is a group from Philly that I stumbled upon while listening to KEXP’s podcast. It’s rare that I’m able to find a new underground hip hop group that really appeals to me, but these guys really deliver with powerful lyrics and unique, complex sounds to back them up. Check out their newest album, “Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell,” and specifically the songs “Heavy Metal Kings” and “Outlive the War.”
I won’t try to get into doing any sort of amateur-hour music review, but I will say that they sound like a mix of Wu Tang, the Gravediggaz, and J5. Here’s a snippet from their bio:
“While most rap producers are content to employ one, perhaps two, repetitious loops, Stoupe continues to redefine the role of rap producer by incorporating upwards of fifty tracks inclusive of samples, live instrumentation, and other such sound effects, effectively pushing the limits of his own signature style while further solidifying his deserved reputation as one of rap’s most celebrated composers since Wu-Tang Clan’s The RZA.”
